Ch. 1/Media Bias

          Reading chapter 1 of the textbook recently was very interesting for me because it went directly against a lot of what was taught in my high school writing classes. My teachers used to emphasize that it was important to pick one side or the other when writing rather than forming your own opinion, which was really hard at times because of how difficult it could be to completely agree with either side of an issue. I am happy that college writing is centered around the idea that you're supposed to apply external information and use critical thinking and "knowledge-making" to form an opinion because it allows for a lot more freedom in my work/interpretations.     A good application for this happens to be in dealing with the media today. Introduction/First Week

                                    Hi, my  name is Matthew Manzella and I am majoring in applied math and computer science at North Central. My main interests include going hiking with my family, running, going to the gym, and watching sports on TV.  I have always been very physically active throughout my life and did soccer, track, and cross country in high school. My passion for these three sports is big because of the way you are able to both physically and mentally challenge yourself in every step of preparation. I started playing soccer when I was 9 and my passion took off from every angle, leading me to play travel ball and then eventually in high school. When COVID shut everything down my sophomore/junior year and the soccer season was shifted, I decided to go out for cross country.
