Down to the Wire

I have been watching soccer since I was in fourth grade.

The first team I ever watched on TV was Arsenal, a team from London, England. They won the game and had cool jerseys so I decided to become an Arsenal fan. To this day I still support them but it has been a difficult ride.

Arsenal has historically been one of the best teams in the world. They used to be regulars in big competitions such as the Champions League and competed for the English Premier League title almost every single year, but things haven't been the same in a while. Since 2015, Arsenal has shown very poor performances and have struggled way more. It has been a disappointing 8 or so years with very little accomplished, but that could possibly change in a month.

Currently, Arsenal are sitting first place in the English Premier League. If they see it through, this will be their first Premier League title since the year I was born. A month ago it looked like we'd be clear winners, but that doesn't stand anymore. Second place Manchester City is in great form and only one point behind us once they win their game in hand. Arsenal also choked a few easy games and dropped points that gave Manchester City a chance to compete with us. Honestly speaking, Manchester City is a better team than Arsenal and I'd pick them to win the title if I had to bet money, but I really hope Arsenal see it through and win.

It's a close race and one that's had me stressed out in the past few weeks. If Arsenal win I'll be really happy and if they don't I'll be pretty frustrated. Hopefully we can keep the lead.

Freshman Year Reflection

Going into my freshman year of college after graduating high school, I had a lot of uncertainties. People go in different directions after graduating and I wasn't sure if the path I was planning was sufficient compared to my peers.     Mainly, I wasn't sure if I was making the right decision by choosing North Central. Most of my friends chose to go to schools far from home for the "college experience"/partying, which is something I've never been into. I've always had the goal of graduating college debt-free, so I made sure to pick a school where I could commute and afford it without having to take out loans. After picking North Central, I was happy because it was a great school that I could afford and stay close to my family while attending, but other people didn't agree with my decision. I got made fun of by peers who expected me to go to an "elite" university because of my good grades and was told time and time again that I was going to m...

Deep Water Documentary

The film Deep Water tells the true story of Donald Crowhurst, a British man with no sailing experience, who enters a nonstop boat race around the world in 1968. The documentary mainly utilizes pathos to develop a sorrowful viewpoint regarding Crowhurst's mindset in competing in the race as well as how he "finishes" the race. 1.)  The scene that really got to me was when Crowhurst started faking his position in the race to the British media in order to give them hope that he was overcoming the odds against him when in reality he wasn't. This ended up crushing him because he created a false expectation for himself which ultimately drove him into insanity. This scene made me angry and sad because he started to lose his mind obsessing over the race and trying to cheat his way out and sad because he had a family at home and had completely disregarded them in order to try and prove that he could do the extreme. Essentially he was giving everyone (including himself) fals...
